Poetry
We studied poetry throughout the entire year, and consistently learned new and exciting things about it as a whole. Our teacher had us read various genres and time periods of poetry, to demonstrate the diversity and the broad variety of poetry out there. I particularly enjoyed reading O Captain! My Captain. Some of the assignments that she gave us were to write haikus, acrostics, and blackout poetry. Blackout is one that I did not know existed before the class, and it is where the poet takes a sheet of text that has already been written, and creates art or just blacks out all of the words except for the ones that they use to make the poem. I think it shows a lot of creativity, and intelligence. Another kind of poem that I enjoyed were haikus. They are short, simple and easy to read and enjoy. Most of the time they center around nature, but this does not necessarily have to be the case. Overall, the poetry this year was phenomenal and I really enjoyed learning more about this super unique form of writing.
