Hound of the Baskervilles

March, 2019

The Hound of the Baskervilles, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1902, tells the story of the beloved mystery solver, Sherlock Holmes, and his associate John Watson, tackling a centuries old tale of an evil hound that had haunted the Baskerville family for generations. They travel to the moor to investigate the stories, and try to find out who may possibly be responsible for this. Will Sherlock and Holmes get to the bottom of the mystery??

Throughout the book, Doyle focuses on naturalism versus supernaturalism, and the struggle between the two. “The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.” "To the man of precised, scientific mind the work of Monsieur Bertillon must always appeal strongly.” "Then had you not better consult him?” "I said, sir, to the precisely scientific mind. But as a practical man of affairs it is acknowledged that you stand alone. I trust, sir, that I have not inadvertently--"

"Just a little," said Holmes.” “That which is clearly known hath less terror than that which is but hinted at and guessed.”
